Abstract

Water apple (Syzygium aqueum) is usually cultivated as home garden plant for its edible fruit. Fruit industry development program needs high quality and sufficient quantity seedling. However, their propagation is often neglected. For vegetative propagation, cutting is one preferred alternative for its simplicity and can be easily practiced. A good planting medium is a medium that provide sufficient nutrients and water for the plant growing process. Various types of media can be used, such as charcoal husk, soil, sand, sawdust, cocopeat, and zeolite. This study was conducted using a Random Design Group (RAK) factorial with 2 factors: the position of the cuttings material with levels and planting media with 3 levels of treatment, with 3 times replication. Results show that: 1. The treatment of the position of the lower stem cuttings material (B3) affected all parameters except emerging shoots, 2. The treatment of husk charcoal planting media (M2) affected all parameters and 3. There was no interaction between the position of the cuttings (B) and planting media (M) against the growth of water guava cuttings (Syzygium aqueum).
